VERY upset. Bought this product and paid extra for express delivery as I will be traveling outside of the country and need to get my taxes done ASAP. Wanted to get it done this weekend but could not even install the CD. It would only install 25% of the product before freezing. I shut off my computer and tried again. My computer said I had to uninstall the 25% before I could install again. Kept getting error message after error message after “Uninstall failed, will forward error to TurboTax”. Could not get anyone on the phone to speak with….only directs you to their website, which offers suggestions on how to correct the problem, but even after trying all the suggestions, none of them worked. This happened once before with Turbo Tax when trying to “update” the software…the software failed. I am returning and buying another tax product….or maybe I will try the online version….nothing to download or install. They should make sure the product is error free BEFORE releasing it to the public, not find out as you go.

2007 Turbo Tax allowed me to take an IRS deduction for an IRA. I submitted my return after it was determined by Turbo Tax to be error free. It was some 10 months later that the IRS contacted me to tell me that I was being penalized for improperly taking this deduction as my and my wife’s (joint return) was too high. I had to pay the penalty and interest and go thru the procedure with Charles Schwab to reverse the contribution. Calling Turbo Tax they admitted their error and said they were sorry. Of course if you wish to fill out reams of paperwork they said they will refund to me the interest and penalty. For 250 dollars the time wasted is not worth it to deal with them. I believe that they count on this when they make their warranty.
2008 Turbo Tax caused or allowed an error that I am still dealing with. Basically we sold a bond fund at Schwab that had gone down substanially in value (this was Schwab’s inhouse short turn bond fund (Yieldplus) that they are being class action sued over because of massive losses incurred by owners of the “safe” fund). Turbo Tax showed the amount of money that we had received for the sale of the fund as a gain, when in fact it should have showed it as a return of capital. So the IRS then added the proceeds of this gain to our gross income when they reviewed the return thereby triggering a very large penalty and interest charge. I then filed an amended return where all penalties were removed except some 300 dollars in interest which we are still fighting. Yesterday I and my wife both get a letter from Social Security that our Medicare part B charges are going up over 400 dollars per year because we made too much money in 2008(this of course because of this error in attributing this sale to gross income). Now we must deal with this, so the beat goes on. Meanwhile Turbo Tax had again shown this return to be error free before we submitted it to the IRS.
Its back to our tax accountant for us

I’ve used this software to prepare multiple returns for my family. It’s easy to use, accurate, and I highly recommend it. It does everything a professional preparer would do for you, only cheaper.

I did my taxes for years on my own. When I started using TT, I felt I was getting more coverage. With the Premiere edition I can import my financial institution’s info. No more figuring those lengthy irs forms!
