On Jan 30, 2007 I walked 1 hour and 30 minutes to a store to buy Windows Vista Premium (DVD) version. Then I walked 1 hour and 30 minutes back to my house. I then began trying to open the box & it took me a while to figure out how to open the box.
When I finally open the box I notice that I have a 32 bit only DVD.
Then I saw a piece of paper saying that you can order the 64bit DVD online, so I was a little disappointed with that, but I installed the 32 bit version and then I went online to order the 64bit DVD. It would cost me 9.95 free shipping (10 days) or $6.00 (5 days), so I picked 5 days.
Anyways I really enjoy the new features, and I’m glad that I bought Windows Vista Premium. WOW!
I recommend others to buy Windows Vista Premium.

Vista has run without an issue on my HP duo-core right from the box. Set-up was a breeze. Vista seems to run at least as fast as XP, maybe a little faster. You can run Vista with 1GB memory, my wife has been doing it without problems on her laptop.
Yes, security has been improved, but the complaints about endless pop-ups asking for “permissions” are wildly exaggerated. They occur when they should, when you’re installing programs/drivers and all you have to do is click “yes” when you consider it appropriate.
The “Aero” look is nice, but the desktop otherwise will be familiar to any XP user. Settings are easier to find than XP. Networking works flawlessly, and I managed to access my wife’s PC via Wifi, which I could never get to work with XP
My old XP programs run without problems, and I’ve had no driver problems. Itunes, games, Citrix client, Palm desktop, all work without issues. If you’re accessing the web, word processing, playing a few games, and checking email, Vista will be fine for you.
I don’t feel there’s a huge benefit to upgrading if you’re happy with XP. I suspect many Vista issues involve upgrades on older hardware. Preinstalled, there’s no reason not to go with Vista. Ignore the rants about the “Windows sky is falling”. Vista is stable, has excellent backward capability, and will allow the average user to get what they need done.

I’m really shocked at all the negative reviews. I have decided to upgrade my system to Vista, and I’m hardly running what people would call a solid setup for Vista. I have an Athlon 64 3000+, 1gb ram, and a 128mb GeForce video card, and this runs Vista like a champ!
I decided to do a clean install, my XP was getting loaded up and it was time. I’m extremely, and I mean, EXTREMELY impressed with the fact that Vista had all my chipset drivers (nvidia doesn’t even make drivers for my nForce 3 board for vista) and I literally didn’t have to install any driver software for my upgrade. Brilliant. Wait, I installed printer software, because it’s an all-in-one and I like their options, but it wasn’t required. And I decided to put the latest video driver on too. Apple claims to be plug-n-play, well, Vista is too, by far. This is a HUGE improvement over XP, where you need to get drivers for everything.
Overall, the new interface is fantastic, it’s super streamlined, and flat out fun and comfortable. There are so many minor and major improvements that are impressive. For instance, the user folders, what are these? Well, instead of “my documents” you now simply click on your start menu and select your name, then instead of just pictures/video/music you actually have all relevant folders. When you download something off the internet, it automatically puts it into your downloads folder, everything is very streamlined like this, and it works great. I won’t go into all the little features, but I can assure you, all the visual improvements are flat out AWESOME and so much better than XP, it’s such a pleasure to use Vista.
All my old software installed just fine, and I’ll totally agree that the “security prompts” are way, WAY overexaggerated, you rarely see them, and it’s only when installing software and other things you RARELY do…
Compared to OS-X – I have Leopard on my Mac, and I’m WAY more impressed with Vista to be honest. Time Machine? Vista has an auto-backup feature released way before Time Machine was introduced, and NOTHING, and I mean NOTHING comes close to the Media Center featured on Vista. You get Photo Gallery software, DVD Creator, the latest Media Player (really good), and many other great products included.
But most of all, if you asked me why should you get a PC with Vista? I’d answer that in a couple points. One, you can run virtually all software. Being a Mac user as well, I come across software ALL the time that I cannot run, from copying dvd’s, to Rhapsody, to just tons and tons of software on a normal basis, it’s annoying. And the fact that Vista is solid, it really works great. It’s fun, refreshing, and very easy and intuitive. The more you use it, the more you realize just how polished this is. Mac gave a couple small updates and called it a new operating system, Vista recreated just what an operating system is with just an absolutely mind blowing amount of new features, and it shows.
Bravo.
p.s. – enough about the whining people… I don’t know where they are getting these problems. No one I know is having issues with Vista at all… it’s solid.

I am so glad I upgraded! I do have one small issue with my speakers, but other than that, this computer runs better than it ever has!!
